CITY of Parramatta Council, in partnership with RSPCA NSW, is offering free pet microchipping and vaccinations to Parramatta Local Government Area residents with a pension or health care card.
Bookings are essential for the COVID-safe event which will run from 9am to 1pm on Friday, March 26.
“With the cost of living on the rise, keeping pets healthy can hit the hip pocket. Council’s free pet vaccination and microchipping service will save families hundreds of dollars and help them keep their pets safe and healthy,” City of Parramatta Lord Mayor Cr Bob Dwyer said.
RSPCA NSW Community Outreach Officer Claudia Jones said vaccinating and microchipping pets is an important part of responsible pet ownership.
“Of the 30,000 animals RSPCA NSW shelters take in every year, only 10 per cent of cats and kittens are microchipped when they arrive at our shelters,” Ms Jones said.
“Vaccinating and microchipping your pets gives them the best opportunity to live a healthy life. By offering these free services, we hope to positively impact the health and welfare of animals and people.”
All local pet owners have access to Council’s free in-home microchipping service any time of the year. In NSW, cats and dogs must be microchipped by 12 weeks old, or before being sold or given away.
