City turns green and gold for Paris Olympics

PARRAMATTA is set to turn green and gold with an Olympic-themed line-up of programs and action-packed activities at PHIVE and Parramatta Square during the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

PHIVE’s ground floor community Living Room is set to be transformed into an Olympics mini screening room during opening hours.

Aspiring athletes are invited to get creative and cheer on their favourite athlete or country with free family friendly activities such as designing their own Olympics team t-shirt and creating their own Olympic torch in the kids’ crafts corner until 8 September.

City of Parramatta Lord Mayor Cr Esber said the Olympics brought communities together to celebrate sporting achievement.

“Many kids have had a taste of the Olympics with a mini-Olympic-themed circuit and breakdancing workshops during the recent PHIVE school holidays,” Cr Esber said.

“We couldn’t be prouder to cheer on our local athletes who are representing Australia in sports including swimming, soccer, table tennis, sailing, badminton, boxing, equestrian and athletics at the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

“Parramatta was the home of the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games which were held within our local government area, so this is your chance to once again get into the spirit of the Olympics.

“I encourage everyone to come down and get into the green and gold spirit with plenty of activities for kids and a front-row seat to all the action.”

The community are welcome to dress in green and gold on Friday 2 August to show their Olympic spirit and to ‘Have a Go’ at Active Parramatta’s mini games activities.

For those who want to be a part of the action, there will be table tennis, chess and additional games for some friendly competition at Parramatta Square.
